Customer Reviews

Well-featured for price point, but lacks quality3
When I decided I needed a new microwave and could only spend $150 total on it, I started searching for the most feature-rich oven I could find within that budget which would fit in the smallish space I had available. I found it with this model. It has a lot of great features, has a cooking cavity almost twice the size of my old oven and has a relatively small footprint to boot. Reading through the manual I let out several ooh's and aah's, much to my wife's amusement. I never thought I could make a good grilled cheese sandwich in a microwave, for instance, but thanks to the browing elements and the browning pan that it comes with, you can.

So, for amusement's sake, I decided to make that the first thing I'd cook in it. Supposedly, you hit the Preheat button, and then the start button, wait about 6 minutes for it to preheat the browing pan, and then put your food in and hit the "sandwich" button. (Really!)

About four minutes into preheating, it reset itself and turned off. I tried again and again, but it just can't make it through the preheat cycle.

So I used the rack instead of the browning pan and had an okay sandwich. But today I called Panasonic. The tech had me unplug the overn and plug it back in and try it again. It failed again. So now I'm off to an authorized service center to get repaired an oven that I've owned less than 24 hours.

I should also mention that the exterior of the oven tries to look like stainless steel but gives more of an impression of cheap aluminum. On the upside, it doesn't hold fingerprints like real stainless steel appliances do, but on the downside it has a really cheap feel to it when you are handling it. You shouldn't be picking up and handling the microwave often, but when combined with the fact that it arrived with a pre-existing defect, I have to say that the outlook may be dim. It's probably a good thing this model was discontinued.

Still, as feature-rich as it is, I have high hopes that it will be just this one problem followed by years of good service. Time will tell.
